to eat fruit.
What's the correct way to eat fruit?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
Eating fruit like that plays a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.
FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it's prevented from doing so.
In the meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.
Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal! You've heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!
There's no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruit becomes alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruit, you have the Secret of Beauty, Longevity, Health, Energy, Happiness and normal weight.
When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT the concentrated juice from the cans. Don't drink juice that has been heated. Don't eat cooked fruit; you don't get the nutrients at all. You get only the taste. Cooking destroys all of the vitamins.
Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look!
KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!
AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants and flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack and stroke.
STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits and protect the body from
cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.
EATING 2 - 4 ORANGES a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent and dissolve kidney stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C and Potassium.
GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes.

Hooray for October! May we find yoga in most anything we do, for example- apple picking! And what better time to pick apples than October. Keeping a holistic and healthy approach to things, I thought I would share a delicious apple receipe that doesn't include pounds of sugar.
Sooooo introducing: Cider-Braised Baby Bok Choy and Golden Apples
Igredients:
3 tbsp low -sodium chicken broth
2 tbsp apple cider
1/2 tsp soy sauce
1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 tsp kosher salt
2 Baby bok choy, halved lengthsie, washed and spun dry
1/2 large golden delicious apple, cored and cut into 8 wedges
1/4 tsp grated fresh ginger
1) combine the broth, cider and soy sauce in a liquid measuring cup
2) In a 10in/25 cm straight sided saute pan with a lid, heat the olive oil and 1/2 tbsp of the butter over medium heat. When the butter has melted and is bubbling, sprinkle the salt over the pan. Arrange the bok choy, cut side down, and the apple wedges in one layer in the pan. Cook, without stirring, until the undersides of the bok choy and the apples are nicely browned, 6-7 minutes.
3) With tongs, gently turn the apple wedges over. Carefully pour the liquid into the pan and cover immediately. Simmer until the liquid is almost completely reduced (1 or 2 tsp will be left), 5 0 6 minutes. Uncover, remove the pan from the heat, and transfer the bok choy and the apples to a serving platter. Add the remaining 1/2 tbsp butter and the ginger to the pan and stir well with a silicone spatula as the butter melts, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Pour the sauce over the bok choy and apples, scraping it out of the pan.
Serves 4
This receipe is from the book Fast, Fresh and Green which is available for sale in our Store!
And for more things green, be sure to check out our Whole Foods 101 class coming Oct 25th:)

Diane is a sweet and cheerful yogini that represents All That Matters well.
When did you start yoga and what attracted you to the practice:
I started yoga to regain flexibility after running a marathon. I was so stiff and tight that I was having trouble doing simple things like getting out of my car!
What is your favorite style of yoga: I do both basic and heated vinyasa classes. I like this combination and each class helps me with the other.
What other activities do you enjoy: I also enjoy time with my dog ( a Bichon Frise), running, hiking and just about any kind of home improvement project!
Favorite sound: My favorite sound is the sound of an owl...especially on a summer night as I’m falling asleep.
Least favorite sound: Gunshots from hunters because I fear that an animal might be suffering...
Favorite meal: Pizza! (but only because I don’t think chocolate counts as a meal..)
What keeps you doing yoga: I keep doing yoga because it is fun and the mind/body health benefits are undeniable. My classes are like mini vacations. I always leave ATM feeling better than when I walked in!
Advice to beginners: Try not to let time constraints prevent you from doing yoga. If it is something you want to do, make it a priority.
What do you like most about All That Matters: What I like most about All That Matters is the teachers...they are outstanding! They provide great classes, skillful instruction and inspiration in all aspects of yoga. Thank you!

It's the peak of summer with everything growing in abundance, but it's a good time to stock up for winter
This month's newcomers...
Plums, greengages, sweetcorn, blackberries, early damsons, crayfish, red grouse, hare
It’s the Taste That Counts
For most of us, the taste of the food we buy is every bit as important as the cost, if not more so. When food is not in season locally, it’s either grown in a hothouse or shipped in from other parts of the world, and both affect the taste. Compare a dark red, vine-ripened tomato still warm from the summer sun with a winter hothouse tomato that's barely red, somewhat mealy, and lacking in flavor. When transporting crops, they must be harvested early and refrigerated so they don’t rot during transportation. They may not ripen as effectively as they would in their natural environment and as a result they don’t develop their full flavor.

08/17/2010 from Providence Journal
By Leigh GroganMcClatchy Newspapers
It’s not exactly the sort of thing that just anyone can do, but there are some simple ways to get a bit of spiritual balance in everyday life. It could start with something as simple as a walk — without a cell phone — according to Rose Zahnn, a fitness instructor and owner of a yoga and Pilates business in Sacramento, Calif.
“I read the book when it came out and I think the nugget she [Gilbert] took away especially in India was the notion of stripping external things like her phone and computer,” she said.
“The closest we could come to that without getting rid of everything, including work and family, is to take time two to three times a week to reconnect with ourselves.”
It’s about making a choice to slow down and maybe, maybe take a deep breath.
Zahnn has practiced yoga for more than 25 years and says it’s ironic that when she started, the mind-body connection of yoga was never mentioned.
“Now, you want to have that link,” Zahnn said. “And there are other things you can do to get rid of the static in your head.”
We’re bombarded by phones, computers, mobile devices, Facebook, Twitter. How hard would it be to take a one-day break from your e-mail?
“I like to take a walk with my dog and just focus on my surroundings no music, no phone,” Zahnn said. “Go to the farmers’ market and enjoy something healthy. It’s all about conscious choices.
“Directing your thoughts is difficult. But if you stay mindful, learn to breathe and slow down the chatter, the message will come true.”
Gilbert’s wake-up call in the book was about living a life she wasn’t resonating with.
For the rest of us, it might just be like taking the garbage out.

Meet Barbara Holtzman:
Barbara has a workshop here at All That Matters on July 19 from 6-9pm.
Her workshop is:
& Your Body
The Non-Diet Approach
Endorsed by Oprah
Barbara: This is an interview with Geneen Roth in the April 2010 Oprah Magazine and her new book, "Women, Food and God" that I think will resonate for you. I share them with you because it helps to hear the information many times and sometimes a different voice will help us "get it." If you are tired of dieting, bingeing, or losing and gaining the same 15 or 50 lbs, Geneen's experience and words of wisdom may help strengthen your intention to finally make peace with food and your body.
"Conquering issues with weight starts with learning to love yourself", Geneen says. 'How would you treat a child who needed your love? Would you just whack them around and just say: 'Wrong! Bad. Look at your thighs, look at your legs'? No. Kindness. Only kindness makes sense. Only kindness ever makes sense."
Note from Barbara: We think we can shame ourselves into taking better care of ourselves, but it doesn't work, does it? We think we have to be perfect to be loved. But don't you love your children, your pets and your friends, even though they're not perfect? Why do you deserve anything less?
"Having issues with weight is always about more than the food." "Your beliefs show up in your relationship with food. So if I'm eating when I'm not hungry, I'm basically saying 'I can't feel these feelings. Life is too much for me."
Barbara: In my newsletters on emotional eating, I've mentioned some practices for coping with feelings without using food (which is also the name of one of the tracks on my CD). We can't give up using food as our main source of pleasure and comfort unless we have others. And, by the way, I have recently added another approach that has been deliciously satisfying - Martha Beck's "Joy Diet." I will share some of her ideas in the next newsletter.
In the article in Oprah's magazine, one of Geneen's students talks about how Geneen's teachings changed her.
" What mostly clicked was recognizing that going to the food wasn't working and that what I was looking for wasn't in the food. So what I was trying to get rid of and what I was trying to not feel, it didn't help to be eating over it... The other thing that clicked was that there was a whole lot of pain there to look at. I needed to look at some of the layers, recognizing some of the beliefs that were keeping me at the weight where I was." 'Those beliefs, she says, were that she wasn't good enough, that nobody liked her and that nobody would accept her the way she was'.
Geneen shares a gem of a recommendation that I think all recovering emotional eaters should write down and keep handy: 'To eat what you want when you're hungry and to feel what you feel when you're not.'
Barbara: Please remember that you developed these belief systems and habits as the best coping strategies you had at the time you started using them. Since you've practiced them for many years, insight alone will not change them. But by having a clear intention, a plan, and compassion for yourself, your new behaviors will eventually become your new 'default setting.' And when you inevitably experience an emotional eating experience, you will get the learning (of what precipitated it and what you needed), forgive yourself and let it go.

Super Snacks: 5 Best Snacks for Energy
Find out which snacks to reach for next time you need a burst of energy.
Yogurt is full of calcium, phosphorus, protein, tryptophan, molybdenum, and zinc. It's also a great source of vitamins B2 (riboflavin), B5 (pantothenic acid), and B12 (cobalamin). Thanks to its liquid-like state, the nutrients in yogurt are assimilated quickly and easily during digestion, which means you get an immediate boost of energy. Yogurt's high protein content means that energy also has staying power.
Pineapple is one of summer's most popular fruits simply because it's so delicious. But if you want more reasons, look no further: A rich source of manganese, vitamin C, vitamin B1 (thiamin), copper, fiber, and vitamin B6, this juicy fruit is a super snack for fueling energy.
Whole grains—especially whole wheat—are full of essential nutrients that energize both body and brain, including fiber; manganese; magnesium; iron; protein; carbohydrates; and vitamins B1, B2, and B3. Whole wheat is loaded with energizing B vitamins, which fight fatigue, maintain energy levels, stabilize blood sugar, improve sleep patterns, coordinate nerve and muscle activity, and boost mood.
Edamame, or boiled soybeans, are a great pick-me-up because they're easy to make, easy to transport, and fun to eat right out of the shell. Soybeans are full of nutrients that contribute directly to a boost in energy as well as mood.
